The Carmichael - Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point has been providing compassionate funeral service to the community since the early 1900s. A.C Hemperley & Sons, founded in 1904, and Howard L. Carmichael & Sons, founded in 1905, joined together in 2000 to provide services to citizens of East Point, College Park, Peachtree City, Fulton, Fayette and Coweta Counties under the name of Carmichael - Hemperley Funeral Home.

A.C Hemperley, founder of A.C Hemperley & Sons Funeral Home moved to East Point in 1895. Seeing the great need for a funeral home in the area, A.C Hemperley Funeral Director and Embalmer opened in East Point in September 1904. After his death in 1934, his son, Carlos Mason Hemperley, and grandson, Carlos M. Hemperley Jr., owned and operated the funeral home.

In 1905, Howard L. Carmichael entered the funeral service profession in McDonough, Georgia. He moved his establishment, Howard L. Carmichael Funeral Home, to East Point in 1922 and built the present funeral home, located at 2968 East Point Street in 1928. In 1946, the name changed from Howard L. Carmichael Funeral Home to Howard L. Carmichael & Sons. Mr. Carmichael died in 1957 and his sons, Leslie and Abb, kept their father’s tradition alive by continuing to serve families with compassionate, professional and personal service.

Soon after Howard L. Carmichael & Sons opened its doors in Peachtree City, Georgia, in 1994, the need for a crematory in the area became apparent and a crematory was added to the building. In 2000, Howard L. Carmichael & Sons Funeral Home joined together with A.C. Hemperley & Sons Funeral Home to form Carmichael - Hemperley Funeral Homes.

Today, the tradition of both families continues with the Carmichael - Hemperley Funeral Homes located in East Point and Peachtree City.
